DIRECTV STREAM Confirms New User Profiles Feature Will Be Available in 2024
DIRECTV STREAM subscribers first began to notice the profile feature this week, which DIRECTV has confirmed is in the testing stages now.
Individual user profiles are one of the best improvements streaming has made to the way viewers consume video. Streaming has popularized the use of profiles, which allow audiences to share their streamer with another household member without having to worry about screwing up their recommendation algorithms or wading through a loved one’s digital recordings to get to their own favorites. This week, The Streamable has confirmed that a new service will be introducing individual user profiles before the end of 2024: DIRECTV STREAM, one of our favorite live TV streaming platforms.
Key Details:
- DIRECTV First Look Testers began receiving notice of the profile feature this week.
- A DIRECTV spokesperson told The Streamable that profiles would roll out widely before the end of 2024.
- Profiles will allow DIRECTV STREAM customers to keep their watch history, recommendations, and DVR recordings separate from other viewers in their homes.
Choose $15 OFF each month for the first 2 months of Entertainment with Sports Pack or $20 OFF each month for the first 3 months of Choice or Ultimate.
DIRECTV STREAM customers took to social media platforms this week to share the introduction of the new profiles feature on the service. Some posted information about the update on Reddit, showing a new profile option in the top-left corner of their user interface, confirming that profiles were available to some of DIRECTV’s First Look Testers.
When asked for comment, a DIRECTV spokesperson told The Streamable, “We have begun to test this feature and plan to roll it later this year.”
There are still many unanswered questions, such as how many profiles DIRECTV STREAM will allow viewers to make, or if the new feature will lead to another price increase for the service. I don’t think the rollout of a profiles option would be enough to justify a price hike in the minds of DIRECTV executives the way a new programming addition would, but cord-cutting and the rising costs of distributing popular TV channels may prompt an increase anyway.
Adding profiles to DIRECTV STREAM will be an undoubted win for customers. It will let DIRECTV STREAM viewers who are using the same household account make their viewing experience much more personalized, by allowing them to keep their content recommendations and viewing histories specific to themselves. Viewers will be able to edit their watching preferences to suit their wants with ease, and not worry about upsetting any other people sharing that account.
The profiles feature will also help DIRECTV STREAM viewers take better advantage of the service’s unlimited Cloud DVR. All new DIRECTV STREAM subscribers get unlimited Cloud DVR, and profiles will let them keep their recordings separate from shows and movies saved by other family members in their library.
Testers who have access to the profiles feature won’t be able to migrate those profiles across platforms, though DIRECTV says that ability is coming soon. DIRECTV STREAM is one of our favorite live TV services because of the number of top cable channels it comes with, as well as its five-day free trial which lets new customers give the service a thorough test before making them decide whether or not to pay for it. Soon, it will add a beloved and highly useful feature that will up the service’s value even more: individual user profiles.
