Disney Looks for More Bundles as Disney+, Max, Hulu Bundle Going ‘Really Well’

Disney executive Nami Patel touted the bundle at a convention in London, saying it was “working really well.”

The Disney+, Hulu and Max bundle is reportedly working for just about everyone invovled.

The streaming bundle in general is a clear win for consumers. It allows viewers to sign up for streaming services they were likely to be stacking individually anyway and save money at the same time. Products like the [Disney+, Hulu, and Max][Disney+ Hulu Max] bundle are often discounted over 35% from what consumers would pay to sign up for the services individually, and despite that lower price, they’re good for the companies that create them since they lead to more loyal customer bases. On Tuesday, Disney SVP of strategy and business development Nami Patel discussed the process of bundling streamers with Warner Bros. Discovery and said that, so far, the bundle has been a big success.

Key Details:

  • Patel said the bundle is doing a good job of boosting engagement and lowering churn.
  • WBD CEO David Zaslav said the bundle was partially responsible for Max gaining 6 million new subscribers in Q3.
  • The Disney+, Hulu, and Max bundle launched in July starting at $16.99 per month.
Only Murders in the Building is just one of the many award-winning titles in the Disney+, Hulu Max bundle.

Patel took the stage at the RTS London Convention on Tuesday and covered a myriad of topics. Among the executive’s discussion points was an update on the bundle of Disney+, Hulu, and Max that Disney teamed with WBD to launch over the summer.

The update was mostly sunshine and roses, with Patel saying the bundle was “working really well.” She went on to explain that it had increased the time viewers spent on each platform and is already reducing churn. She declined to provide specifics, but these are generally the hallmarks of streaming bundles, as they help customers think of the associated streamers as indispensable, since canceling one means they have to cancel all.

A June survey from Deadline and Magid found that bundling reduced the predictive churn rate of a given streaming service by 16%, and the comments from Patel are just the latest indication that such ascertions are grounded in solid data.

WBD officials have also been pleased with the results they’ve seen from the Disney+, Hulu, and Max bundle so far. WBD CEO David Zaslav said last week that Max would have 6 million new subscribers by the end of the third quarter, and said the bundle was a big part of the reason why.

Patel indicated that Disney will keep an eye open for more opportunities to combine its streaming services with others in bundles in the future.

“Partnerships will always be a key benefit to consumers, and I think we’ll see more and more of that,” she said.

The Disney+, Hulu, and Max bundle first went on sale in late July. Customers can combine the ad-supported plans of the three services for $16.99, or can cut out the ads for $29.99 monthly. Each of those plans represents a 38% discount off what viewers would pay for each service individually. And despite price increases coming next month for nearly all of Disney's streaming products, this bundle’s price will remain unchanged, so that’s even more savings down the line.
