Disney Shutting Down Some Streaming Apps Today; Where Can You Watch Those Titles?
The ABC App and several other Disney-owned streaming apps will be sunset forever as of Sept. 23.
A day of reckoning has come for several Disney streaming apps for connected TV and mobile devices. In late August, the company warned customers that it was planning to sunset five different on-demand apps associated with popular broadcast and cable channels as of Monday, Sept. 23. Now that the day has arrived, we’ll break down where you can stream the content formerly found on these apps in the Disney streaming ecosystem.
Key Details:
- Disney+ will carry much of the content found on the DisneyNOW app.
- Hulu will continue to offer next-day streams of ABC and FX titles.
- Hulu + Live TV carries livestreams of ABC, FX, Freeform and Nat Geo.

Which Apps Are Shutting Down?
As of Sept. 23, Disney will shut down the ABC, DisneyNOW, Freeform, FXNow, and Nat Geo TV apps. The websites associated with these apps will still function as they always have, and customers can log in with their TV Everywhere credentials to access their content via the web.
What Content Will Move to Disney+?
Disney+ carries a good amount of the on-demand content you can find on the DisneyNOW app, including episodes of “Big City Greens,” “Bluey” and much more. National Geographic content also winds up on Disney+, so any viewers looking to stream on-demand content from Disney Channel, Disney Junior, or Disney XD should give the streamer a long look, especially since it’s offering a deal for $2 per month for three months deal currently. Disney+ also gets some of the content found on the Freeform channel.
Disney+ also offers a livestream of the ABC News Live channel, an ad-supported streaming channel that provides constant updates and coverage of the day’s biggest news stories. That helps make up for some of the programming lost from the ABC App.
Disney+
Disney+ is a video streaming service with over 13,000 series and films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, The Muppets, and more. It is available in 61 countries and 21 languages. It is notable for its popular original series like “The Mandalorian,” “Ms. Marvel,” “Loki,” “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” and “Andor.”
What Content Will Move to Hulu?
As it has for some time, Hulu will continue to offer next-day streams of new TV episodes that air on ABC and FX. Viewers can stream new episodes of shows like “Abbott Elementary” and “Grey's Anatomy” with their Hulu subscriptions, as well as titles like “American Horror Story.” Like Disney+, Hulu also gets some of the titles available on Freeform.
Also like Disney+, Hulu customers can watch the ABC News Live channel as part of their subscription. In fact, customers who sign up for Disney+ and Hulu in a bundle can stream a huge selection of the titles found on Hulu directly from the Disney+ app if they prefer.
Hulu
Hulu is a video streaming service that gives access to thousands of full seasons of exclusive series, hit movies, kids shows, and Hulu Originals like “Only Murders in the Building,” and “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
What Content Will Move to Hulu + Live TV?
Hulu + Live TV is the best way to watch content found on the soon-to-be-shuttered streaming apps live. It carries ABC, Disney Channel, FX, Freeform, and National Geographic in its base channel package, which starts at $76 per month.
Customers who opt to pay just $1 per month more get access to the Disney Trio Basic bundle as part of their subscription. That means that they can stream Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ on-demand alongside all the cable channels included with Hulu + Live TV for $77 per month, and can still use their TV Everywhere credentials to log into the websites associated with the defunct streaming apps listed above.
Hulu Live TV
Hulu Live TV is a live TV streaming service with more than 70 channels for $82.99/month. Hulu + Live TV base plan includes local channels, 33 of the top 35 cable channels, and regional sports networks (RSNs). Subscribers get free access to Disney+ and ESPN+ at no extra charge.
