LocalBTV Expands Coverage to Reno, Nevada
Didja’s free broadcast TV streaming app LocalBTV has added another market: Reno, Nevada. With this addition, a total of 14 markets are available to stream for free. LocalBTV users can also take advantage of the app’s DVR features, which allow you to record and store up to 1 TB of programming in the cloud.
LBTV is primarily of interest to people who want to stream secondary digital channels broadcast by their local affiliates. This is mostly comprised of old reruns from several decades ago. Users will also see shopping channels and some channels in non-English languages.
Though Didja and LocalBTV have not announced the expansion themselves, the homepage has been updated to reflect that there are now 14 markets available. In the past, the companies have made official announcements about new markets.
A Reddit user also noticed that the Reno market was added to LocalBTV and shared a screenshot featuring the new addition. As shown in the screenshot, there are 15 channels to stream in the Reno market. At this point, LocalBTV doesn’t offer coverage from major national network affiliates, however, the company claims “other stations such as the major networks (ABC, NBC, etc) will be available in the future.” After the demise of Locast cord-cutters are looking for another free option for local affiliates.
LocalBTV is now available in the following markets:
- Bay Area
- Southern California
- San Diego
- New York
- Las Vegas
LocalBTV is an alternative to Locast, which has been ordered to permanently shut down amid a legal battle with the “Big Four” broadcast networks. If you were previously using Locast for news and are looking for a replacement, use our guide to learn more about your options, including LocalBTV.
