Netflix Launches ‘Dark’ Season 3, Explores Time Travel

Fern Siegel

Netflix’s German hit “Dark” kicks off its final season on Saturday.

Viewers have the option of watching the show in the dubbed English version or in German with English subtitles.

The series began with the disappearance of two kids in the town of Winden and the twisted relationships among four families. Sinister forces that plagued the town in 1986 compound the mystery — “Dark” stages a battle between good and evil.

The season two finale revealed multiple dimensions, which dovetails into the trailer for season three, which teases the idea of existential time travel in this menacing sci-fi series.

“Dark,” created by Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese, is the first German original series produced for Netflix.

The season three cast includes Louis Hofmann, Jördis Triebel, Lisa Vicari, Mark Waschke, Andreas Pietschmann, and Lea van Acken. Joining the season are Barbara Nusse, Hans Diehl, Jakob Diehl, Nina Kronjager, Sammy Scheuritzel and Axel Werner.

As co-creator Friese told Thrillist: “As with every character in Dark, when you’re sure you know who the villain is or who’s doing the bad thing, you should be open for what made them that way. No one is just evil because they want to be; everyone is reacting to their own hurts and wounds. The past shapes you, and everything that happens.”
