AT&T CFO John Stephens Says HBO Max Will Be “Much Different” Than Other Streaming Services

Apple was the latest media company to unveil details on the streaming service yesterday. The tech giant announced at their Apple iPhone Event that they will be launching Apple TV+ on Nov. 1 for $4.99. The launch will come days before the launch of Disney+, which takes place on Nov. 12 with the service costing $6.99. Though competition seems thick right now, AT&T CFO, John Stephens is not at all concerned about how HBO Max, fare with the rest.

During the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Communications & Entertainment Conference, Stephens said HBO Max is “much different than what was talked about by some of the other” streaming services, stating, “Nobody else has started with anything called HBO, so we only have a 40-year head start with a quality product that is premium so we feel good about that. Though he didn’t go into further details regarding HBO Max, he assured the audience that the team behind HBO Max will address more questions on the service during their press event taking place on Oct. 29.

HBO Max, which is set to launch next spring, is reported to be priced at $14.99 a month, identical to the price of HBO and HBO NOW. The service was originally expected to have multiple price tiers, but due to the unexpectedly low-price of Disney+, switched to a single-tier of $16-17.

The service will bring Friends, as well as become the new streaming home for all fare from The CW (which was previously housed at Netflix). The service will bring exclusive original shows like Dune and The Flight Attendant, as well as original feature films from prolific producer Greg Berlanti and Reese Witherspoon.
