Apple TV Plus Taps Gal Gadot to Star as Screen Legend Hedy Lamarr

Fern Siegel

Once considered the most beautiful woman in the world, Hedy Lamarr is the subject of an Apple TV+ eight-part series.

Starring Gal Gadot (“Wonder Woman”) as the screen siren and inventor, Apple has greenlit a straight-to order series, which is moving from Showtime to the streamer.

Apple says the film covers 30 key years in Lamarr’s life — from escaping pre-war Vienna to her glory years in Hollywood to her eventual fall during the Cold War. She also produced and starred in two film-noir pictures.

Known for her 1940s movies, such as “Boom Town,” “Comrade X” and “White Cargo,” the Austrian-born Lamarr was instrumented in co-inventing a frequency-hopping radio guidance system for Allied torpedoes, now seen as a precursor to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology. She was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2014.

Sarah Treem (“The Affair,” “House of Cards”) will write and executive produce the series. Gadot, Warren Littlefield (“Handmaid’s Tale) and Gadot’s husband Jaron Varsano will share executive-producing duties.

Gadot’s “Wonder Women 1984,” the sequel to “Wonder Woman,” has a tentative release date in August.
