With theaters across the country shutting down due to the coronavirus pandemic, Disney has joined the list of studios digitally releasing their movies early. The media giant just made “Onward,” a Pixar animated film, available for digital purchase months ahead of schedule. The film, which hit theaters on March 6, will also be available on Disney+ on April 3.

The digital film will be available to download starting today at 8p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and will go for $19.99.

“While we’re looking forward to audiences enjoying our films on the big screen again soon, given the current circumstances, we are pleased to release this fun, adventurous film to digital platforms early for audiences to enjoy from the comfort of their homes,” stated director Dan Scanlon and producer Kori Rae.

Earlier this week, Warner Bros. announced the digital release “Birds of Prey,” will come early as well. The film, which is a spinoff to 2017’s “Suicide Squad,” will be available on March 24 for $19.99.

Other studio films in the theater will get an early VOD release on March 20. They include “The Hunt,” “Emma” and “The Invisible Man.” The films will be available for a 48-hour rental period at a suggested retail price of $19.99 in the U.S.
