Disney+ just released the new trailer and poster for “Black Is King,” a film by Grammy-winner Beyoncé, which premieres globally on July 31.
The visual album is based on the music of “The Lion King: The Gift.” It debuts two weeks after the one-year anniversary of the theatrical release of Disney’s “The Lion King” and rethinks the lessons of the show.
Shot in various locations, it begins in New York, then travels to Los Angeles, South Africa, West Africa, London and Belgium.
The guests in the film include models Aweng Ade-Chuol and Adut Akech, supermodel Naomi Campbell, Tina Knowles-Lawson, author and Oscar-winning actor Lupita Nyong’o, singer Kelly Rowland, Pharrell Williams and Jay-Z, among others.
“Black Is King” includes full-length videos for the songs “Already,” “Brown Skin Girl,” “Mood 4 Eva” and “My Power.”
The film will also be available in various African countries, including South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia, Namibia, Cameroon, Liberia, Burundi, Senegal, Togo, Somalia, Benin, Congo, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Gabon and Cape Verde via a distribution deal with MultiChoice Group’s M-Net and Canal+ Afrique.
Disney+ teamed with Parkwood Entertainment, Beyoncé’s production company, for the work.
This is the second musical being released by Disney+ in July. The first on July 3 was the Broadway hit “Hamilton.”
