At Google I/O, the company’s annual developer conference — Google announced that they will be launching a complete overhaul of Google Play on Android TV devices like NVIDIA SHIELD later this year. The new store will feature a brand new design to make app discovery easier, and make it easier to buy and subscribe to services.
The refreshed look will be more visual and take advantage of your large TV screen. The more immersive discovery experience will bring additional information as you scroll through different apps you may want to install.
But, one the key features of the new Google Play for Android TV is that it will make it easier for people to subscribe to services. The update will take advantage of some of the learnings from Android and allow you pay with your PIN.
Additionally, if you don’t have the app installed, you can subscribe and install the app simultaneously — allowing you to get straight to watching content.
At the event Google announced that Android TV now has over 5,000 apps including 1,000+ from streaming providers — including Amazon Prime Video which was available on NVIDIA SHIELD, but will now be available on many more Android TV devices.
