Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie are returning as judges, while Bobby Bones is back as the in-house mentor. And Ryan Seacrest takes another turn as the host as “American Idol” once again goes cross country, looking for the best talent each state can offer.
“American Idol has been my home for 17 seasons and I can’t wait to return to the stage,” Seacrest said in a statement last fall. “It’s the greatest gift to be able to play a part in discovering new talent with a franchise that has been such a relevant part of American culture for so many years.”
On the premiere episode, the show goes to Savannah, Georgia; Milwaukee; Washington, D.C.; Los Angeles; and Sunriver, Oregon.
Candidates vying for a ticket to Hollywood include “a subway performer from Harlem who gives one of the most emotional auditions in ‘Idol’ history; a garbage collector with no experience who heads to the streets of Savannah, alongside host Ryan Seacrest, to warm up for his audition; and a hopeless romantic who encounters her own fairy tale twist during her audition as she sings from the heart,” according to ABC.
