Paramount+ Releases “Frasier” Season 2 Trailer
He’s listening: Paramount+ has debuted the official trailer for the upcoming second season of its original comedy series “Frasier,” its revival of the original record-setting series.
Filmed in front of a live studio audience at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, “Frasier” sees Kelsey Grammer return as Dr. Frasier Crane in the next chapter of his life as he returns to Boston “to face new challenges, forge new relationships and—with hope—finally fulfill an old dream or two.” In Season 2, Crane will return to his radio roots as he visits Seattle. Original series stars Peri Gilpin, Dan Butler, Edward Hibbert, and Harriet Sansom Harris will all appear as guests in the new season with other previously announced guest stars Rachel Bloom, Yvette Nicole Brown, Greer Grammer, Patricia Heaton, and Amy Sedaris.

In addition to Grammer, the series stars Jack Cutmore-Scott, Nicholas Lyndhurst, Toks Olagundoye, Jess Salgueiro, and Anders Keith. More than 20 years since its series finale, the original “Frasier” still holds the record for most Emmy wins for a comedy series with 37 wins and 107 nominations. Season 1 of the revival recently received three Primetime Emmy nominations. “Frasier” Season 2 will premiere on Paramount+ on Thursday, Sept. 19, with two episodes. New episodes will drop weekly every Thursday.
“Criminal Record” Gets Season 2 Renewal
Apple TV+’s “Criminal Record” gets lengthier as the streamer has ordered a Season 2 renewal for its recent hit crime thriller. Created by Paul Rutman (“Vera”), the contemporary London-set series, which premiered in January, follows two brilliant detectives—one a seasoned veteran and the other early in her career—as they clash on an old murder case following an anonymous phone call. Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo lead the cast as Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty and Detective Sergeant June Lenker, respectively; both will return for the sophomore season.

According to the official description, in the upcoming season, June is the senior officer on the scene when a political rally is attacked by far-right extremists, leaving a young man dead and June consumed by guilt and desperate to find the unknown killer. Her best hope is Daniel, now a key figure in the shadowy world of police intelligence, who may have the answers she needs… at the high cost of a dangerous bargain.
The series also stars Zoë Wanamaker, Charlie Creed-Miles, Cathy Tyson, Stephen Campbell Moore, and Shaun Dooley with Dionne Brown, Tom Moutchi Aysha Kala, Jordan Nash, Georgina Rich, and more. A release date for “Criminal Record” Season 2 will be announced later.
Netflix Sets “Simone Biles Rising” and “SPRINT” Continuation Dates
The Paris 2024 Olympics may be over (though the 2024 Paralympics are only just about to begin!), but Netflix is keeping up the pride and excitement with the continuation of two recent documentaries.
On Friday, Oct. 25, the final two episodes of “Simone Biles Rising” will premiere on the platform. Produced by Religion of Sports in association with the Olympic Channel and directed by Katie Walsh, the four-part documentary series, which debuted its first part on July 17, follows Olympian Simone Biles through her fight back to the top after withdrawing from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics to focus on her mental health.
The highly anticipated Part 2 will follow Biles as she competes at the 2024 U.S. Gymnastics Trials, qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Team, through her performance at the Paris Games where she took home three gold medals and one silver medal. The episodes will provide intimate access as Biles shares her thoughts and moments of her incredible journey to become the most decorated gymnast in history.

Later in November, Netflix will also premiere the second season of “SPRINT,” its new docuseries offering exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the world’s fastest runners and “delves deep into the psyches of those elite competitors who train to be the fastest person on the planet.” Season 1 premiered this past July 2 and explored top sprinters on the road and throughout the 2023 World Championships, including recent Team USA gold medalists Sha’Carri Richardson and Noah Lyles, former world champion and Jamaican sprinter Shericka Jackson, and other runners from the U.S. and around the world, on their journeys from the 2023 World Championships to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Episodes of Season 2 will feature Lyles, Jackson, Gabby Thomas, Fred Kerley, Kishane Thompson, Julien Alfred, Letsile Tebogo, Melissa Jefferson, Twanisha Terry, Marcell Jacobs, Kenny Bednarek, Oblique Seville, and other elite athletes on the track. “SPRINT” Season 2 will premiere on Netflix on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
Trailer for Fourth and Final Season of “My Brilliant Friend” Out Now
HBO has begun its send-off of “My Brilliant Friend,” which will premiere its fourth and final season next month. The cabler has released the official trailer for the new season of the critically acclaimed HBO-RAI drama series, based on the bestselling novels by Elena Ferrante.
“My Brilliant Friend” follows the titular Elena Greco and the most important friend in her life, Raffaella “Lila” Cerullo, covering over 60 years of their relationship. The fourth installment of the saga, titled “Story of the Lost Child,” delves into the adult lives of Elena and Lila as “they find themselves entangled in the turmoil of Italy in the late 1980s, nearing the end of decades of political violence and social unrest. Amid motherhood and career demands, amid betrayals, threats, disappearances, and natural disasters, Elena and Lila once again reside in the same neighborhood.”

Alba Rohrwacher leads the cast opposite Irene Maiorino, Fabrizio Gifuni, Stefano Dionisi, Anna Rita Vitolo, Pier Giorgio Bellocchio, Daria Deflorian, Lino Musella, Eduardo Scarpetta, Edoardo Pesce, and Sonia Bergamasco. Season 4 of “My Brilliant Friend” will premiere on HBO on Monday, Sept. 9 at 9 p.m. and will be available to stream simultaneously on Max. New episodes will debut on subsequent Mondays.
Hulu Sets “Rivals” Release Date
Choose your side: Hulu has announced the premiere date for its highly anticipated original series “Rivals,” coming to the platform on Friday, Oct. 18 in the U.S. and other territories (and on Saturday, Oct. 19 on Disney+ in the United Kingdom). The original eight-part blockbuster is based on the 1988 novel of the same name in Dame Jilly Cooper’s sly and sexy “Rutshire Chronicles” series. It centers on the ruthless world of independent TV “against the backdrop of the drama, excess, and shocking antics of the power-grabbing social elite of 1980s England.”

Wrapping up its theatrical window after its June 7 release, Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema’s “The Watchers” is set to make its global streaming debut on Friday, Aug. 30, exclusively on Max.
