Has ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Been Summoned to Streaming Yet? When Will it Appear on Max?
Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara all return for this wickedly delightful sequel, which also stars Jenna Ortega.
Alright, who said the name “Beetlejuice” three times in a row? Whoever is responsible, the troublemaking spirit is back to wreak even more havoc in “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” a sequel to the iconic 1988 original which features several of the same cast members. The film makes its official theatrical debut on Friday, Sept. 6, and we’ll try to work up some magic to figure out when you can stream it at home below!
Key Details:
- “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” has an excellent critical and audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
- The film is being distributed by Warner Bros. Discovery, and so will stream first on Max.
- The popularity of the movie, combined with the past tactics of its distributor, point to a long theatrical window.
Watch the Trailer for ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’:
Tim Burton steps back behind the camera for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which continues to follow the Deetz family and their sometimes-wayward adventures. After an unexpected tragedy reunites three generations of Deetzes under one roof, Lydia’s daughter Astrid discovers a familiar model in the attic of their Winter River home. When the inevitable occurs and Beetlejuice is unleashed once again, it will take all the wits the Deetz family has to contain him once again.
The film has won the approval of both reviewers and preview audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have given their approval to the movie at a rate of 77%, and 86% of audiences who have caught an early screening also give it a spooky thumbs-up.
When Will You Be Able to Stream ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ at Home?
Unfortunately for those hoping to see “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” on the world’s largest streamer Netflix, it will be a very long time before the movie is found there. “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is being distributed by Warner Bros. Discovery, and will therefore be sent to that company’s own streaming service Max before it’s available anywhere else as part of a subscription.
Considering how popular the film is with audiences and critics, and how badly WBD needs all the box-office hits it can get, it will likely be a while before “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is available to watch on Max. A film like “The Watchers,” which had a weak box office for WBD still took 84 days to arrive on Max, and the recent romantic thriller “Love Lies Bleeding” spent 133 days in theaters and on premium digital rental and purchase platforms like Prime Video before moving to Max.
Because WBD has a history of releasing movies to streaming on Fridays, I’ll stick with the 133-day prediction for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” and say that the movie will arrive on Max on Friday, Jan. 17. That’s a long wait, but fans can stream the original film on Max as many times as they want while they wait for the sequel to arrive!
