Library streamer hoopla announces new SeasonPass feature
SeasonPass will allow viewers to binge a full season of TV on a single borrow.
There are so many things you can do with a library card, but one of the best ways to use it is to sign up for a free hoopla account. This streaming service allows you to rent eBooks, audiobooks, TV shows, and movies at no cost at participating public libraries, so long as you have a valid card. To make that experience even better for TV lovers, hoopla is launching a new SeasonPass feature, which will let patrons binge entire seasons of TV without having to check out the same show over and over.
Key Details:
- SeasonPass lets viewers check out an entire TV season for a full week on a single borrow.
- A lineup of 14 TV series will be available with SeasonPass at launch.
- Viewers can stream ad-free on hoopla, and watch on multiple devices.
The SeasonPass feature on hoopla will allow audiences to check out and binge entire seasons’ worth of television while using just one borrow. The selected TV season will be available for unlimited on-demand streaming for a week, without the need for holds, waiting periods, or any subscription fees.
“Our focus is on making it easier than ever for patrons to enjoy the content they love, all through a seamless and intuitive experience,” hoopla VP Cat Zappa said. “This offering reflects how people engage with media today, giving patrons access that’s simple, convenient, and aligned with their expectations. By prioritizing ease of use, we’re helping libraries offer a modern, patron-centered experience.”
At launch, there will be a total of 14 TV shows that allow viewers to watch with SeasonPass, including “The Librarians,” “Midsomer Murders,” and more. Hoopla is partnering with BBC Studios, Electric Entertainment, PBS, All3Media, and other studios to make SeasonPass a reality.
“SeasonPass is transforming how libraries deliver digital content, enabling them to better serve their communities and maximize their impact,” hoopla founder Jeff Jankowski said. “It’s not just about simplifying access for patrons — it’s about giving libraries the tools they need to provide meaningful, efficient service in an increasingly digital world. This marks an important step forward in supporting libraries as they adapt to the future of content delivery.”
Viewers can sign up for hoopla free of charge so long as their local library is partnered with the service. There are no ads when streaming TV and movies with hoopla, and viewers can watch on a variety of platforms, including smartphones, Web, and Roku devices.
