Is Blake Lively’s New Movie ‘It Ends With Us’ Streaming Now? When Will the Film Arrive on Netflix?
The new drama is the first of author Colleen Hoover’s novels to be adapted for the big screen.
Blake Lively may have generated plenty of buzz in her cameo in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” but this weekend she’s headlining a new movie all her own. Lively stars in “It Ends With Us,” the new adaptation of the Colleen Hoover novel of the same name. It officially debuts in theaters on Friday, Aug. 9, and I’ll give you my thoughts as to when it will be available to stream on-demand below!
Key Details:
- “It Ends With Us” has been a huge hit with preview audiences, as its Rotten Tomatoes score suggests.
- The film is being distributed in the United States by Sony Pictures, which means it will be released on Netflix first, then head to Hulu.
- Past Sony releases suggest that it could be several months before the movie is available there.
Watch a Trailer for ‘It Ends With Us’
“It Ends With Us” stars Lively as Lily Bloom, a young woman with a traumatic childhood who tries to start a new life for herself in Boston. She meets Ryle Kincaid, a neurosurgeon who she soon falls head-over-heels for. But soon, Ryle’s behavior begins to remind her of her parents’ troubled relationship, and things are complicated further when her first love suddenly reemerges in Lily’s life.
The movie has received somewhat mixed reviews from critics and sits at 59% on Rotten Tomatoes as of the time of this writing. But the audience score from viewers who have seen early previews is a whopping 94%, suggesting that everyday viewers are deeply entranced by Lively’s performance and the film’s writing and direction.
When Will ‘It Ends With Us’ Be Released on Netflix?
A 2021 deal between Sony and Netflix ensures that when “It Ends With Us” is finished playing in theaters, and no longer an exclusive of digital purchase and rental platforms like Prime Video and Vudu, it will head to the world’s largest streaming service first.
Recent history suggests that fans could be in for a bit of a wait for the movie to arrive on Netflix, however. Sony released its disastrous Spider-Man adjacent film “Madame Web” in February, and despite being a box-office bomb the film still took 90 days to arrive on Netflix. “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” was more popular among audiences, and didn’t arrive on Netflix until 122 days after its initial release.
It should also be noted that once “It Ends With Us” moves to Netflix, it will have an 18-month window on the streamer before moving to a Disney-owned service. Hulu is the most logical destination for it, though the integration of Hulu titles onto Disney+ means the film will probably stream on both services for customers who have subscriptions to each.
I think “It Ends With Us” will take 110 days to reach Netflix, which will bring it to the streamer on Wednesday, Nov. 27. That’s just in time for the holidays, and it also means that the film will likely shift to Hulu sometime in May 2026.
