Is Nicolas Cage’s New Horror Flick ‘Longlegs’ Streaming? When Can You Watch it on Hulu?

The film is being hailed by critics and preview audiences as terrifying, but hopefully the wait for it to arrive on streaming won’t be.

Nicolas Cage's new horror movie "Longlegs" is coming to theaters this week, but not Hulu.

Have you been scared out of your seat at a movie theater yet this summer? If not, “Longlegs” is the perfect opportunity for you to head to an air-conditioned cinema near you and frighten yourself silly. The movie officially arrives in theaters on Friday, July 12, and while it’s not available to stream yet, I’ll let you know when to expect it on demand below.

Key Details:

  • “Longlegs” currently has a 90% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
  • As a Neon film, “Longlegs” will stream first on Hulu, and by extension Disney+.
  • Previous horror releases from Neon have taken more than 100 days to reach streaming, and “Longlegs is unlikely to be an exception.

“Longlegs” stars Maika Monroe as Lee Harker, an FBI agent tasked with bringing down a dangerous serial killer known only as Longlegs (Nicolas Cage). A series of occult clues left behind at crime scenes brings her closer and closer to the murderer, but as she works to track him down, Harker begins to realize the connection to Longlegs is much more personal than she could have guessed.

The movie is already a hit with critics and has a 90% score from reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes. The site’s critical consensus calls Cage’s performance “nightmarishly gonzo,” but reviewers also have plenty of praise for the film’s dreamlike qualities and moods as well.

When Will ‘Longlegs’ Be Available to Stream on Hulu?

Longlegs won't stream on Netflix, but it will head to Disney+ and Hulu both...eventually.

“Longlegs” is being distributed in the United States by Neon, which has had a Pay 1 deal in place with Hulu since 2017. That means that when the film leaves theaters and finishes its streaming exclusivity on premium video-on-demand (PVOD) purchase and rental platforms like Vudu or Prime Video, it will go to Hulu first — unless another streamer pays a hefty licensing fee for it. Since most Hulu titles, including Neon-distributed films, are also now available to stream on Disney+, it’s fair to assume that subscribers of both services will have access to “Longlegs” on Disney+ when it releases to Hulu.

Past Neon releases do not bode well for viewers who are hoping for a speedy turnaround, however. Its 2023 movie “Infinity Pool” took 147 days to reach Hulu after its theatrical debut, and this year’s “Immaculate” came out on March 22 — 112 days ago as of the time of this writing — and while it is available to rent or buy digitally, no streaming date for Hulu has been announced yet.

Given that information, I’m convinced it will take at least 120 days for “Longlegs” to arrive on Hulu and Disney+. That would put the movie on Hulu on Nov. 9, though if it comes out a few days earlier to stoke viewers’ interest in the run-up to Halloween, it would hardly be a shock.

Hulu

Hulu is a video streaming service that gives access to thousands of full seasons of exclusive series, hit movies, kids shows, and Hulu Originals like “Only Murders in the Building,” and “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

It offers a good selection of current TV shows and its ad-supported tier is cheaper than both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. You will be able to watch most shows from networks like ABC and Fox, and cable channels like FXX, FXM, HGTV, and more.

The service has a Limited Commercials plan for $9.99 a month, or you can upgrade to their No Ads plan for $18.99 a month. For $82.99 a month, you can get Hulu Live TV from major cable channels, live locals and regional sports networks.
