Movies Anywhere App Now Available on Vizio SmartCast
According to CNET, Movies Anywhere — a Disney-operated cloud-based digital locker and over-the-top streaming platform — is now available on the Vizio SmartCast platform. The app, which could only be streamed to Vizio TVs via phones, is now allowing users to stream movies directly from their digital lockers.
Movies Anywhere allows users to sync their accounts across different digital retailers — including Apple TV, Prime Video, Vudu, Google Play, Microsoft Movies & TV and FandangoNow, CNET reports. Films from all major studios are included, with the exception of Paramount Pictures.
The move to Vizio SmartCast is the latest in Movies Anywhere’s expansion. Back in March, the platform was also integrated onto all LG Smart TVs. The streaming service can be found on all models from 2017 models onward, operating the webOS version 3.5 or later.
Earlier in March, Movies Anywhere announced a new feature called Screen Pass, currently in a closed beta. The feature allows users to “share up to three movies a month from their collections with anyone with an Apple or Android mobile device.”
Screen Pass allows users to send texts to friends or family within the iOS/Android app and enables the recipient to watch one movie. Users can send up to three invites per month and recipients have a limited amount of time to watch the film. Users have up to seven days to accept the Screen Pass and then 14 days to watch the film. Once they start watching the movie, viewers have 72 hours to finish it.
As it stands, Screen Pass works on most devices except for Roku, although the company is working on a solution, CNET reported. Not every movie will be available to share. The eligible films will appear in a designated section within the Movies Anywhere app titled Screen Pass.
