“Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” will be made into an Amazon Prime Video series, focused on Lisbeth Salander, the hacker lead in Stieg Larsson’s “Millennium” books.
The project will not be a sequel — there’s a twist.
Variety reports this version will have “a new setting, new characters and a new story that will resonate with fans of the original and thrill a whole new generation.” The novels take place in the early 2000s, but the Amazon production is grounded in today’s world.
To date, no actress or writer has been added to the project.
Larsson wrote three of the six “Millennium” books — “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” “The Girl Who Played With Fire,” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest” — before he died. The plots revolve around Lisbeth Salander, a hacker, and Mikael Blomkvist, an investigative journalist.
“Tattoo” has had several incarnations. An 2011 English-language adaptation of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” directed by David Fincher, featured Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig. A 2018 version of “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” starred Claire Foy (“The Crown”) and Sverrir Gudnason as leads.
