Last Chance to Get Philo for Just $25 Before the Price Goes Up! How Existing Customers Can Avoid Rate Hike

Philo adds AMC+ on Wednesday, June 12, when the price of the streamer will rise to $28 per month.

Philo is raising prices by $3 per month starting June 12, but existing customers don't have to agree to the increase.

Philo has long been one of the best values in live TV streaming. It offers viewers who don’t feel the need to watch live sports or news a great way to see popular cable channels like A&E, Great American Family, Hallmark Channel, and more at a price you won’t see from most live TV services or cable plans: $25 per month. That price is rising to $28 per month on Wednesday, June 12 when AMC+ access is added, but existing customers are allowed to opt out of the price increase if they choose! That means today is the last day to lock in Philo for the existing $25-per-month price.

Key Details:

  • AMC+ is a $4.99-per-month value, but Philo subscribers will essentially get the streamer for just $3.
  • New subscribers will be offered the upgraded Philo Core package automatically, but existing customers have to opt in to get it.
  • Signing up now will ensure you retain the option to keep Philo at the $25 per month rate for as long as you’d like.

Philo announced its price increase at the end of May. It’s giving all new and current customers access to the AMC+ on-demand streaming service, which includes content from other AMC streamers like Shudder, BBC America, Sundance Now, and more in addition to AMC originals like the new season of “Interview with the Vampire.” The ad-supported plan of AMC+ normally costs $4.99 per month, but Philo is basically knocking that price to $3 by adding it to the Philo Core subscription plan.

Still, if the AMC linear channel combined with Philo’s unlimited Cloud DVR — which lets viewers record entire series, but not single episodes at a time — is enough for you and you don’t think you need on-demand access to AMC titles through AMC+, you can choose to opt out of the addition if you’re an existing Philo customer.

In fact, existing Philo customers don’t have to take extra steps to skip AMC+; all they have to do is choose not to opt in. Philo will not roll out AMC+ access without asking its current customers whether they want to pay an extra $3 per month to get it, a rare customer-first attitude that most streamers are moving away from in search of enhanced profits.

AMC+

AMC+ is a premium streaming bundle that includes the best from AMC, BBC America, IFC, SundanceTV, Shudder, Sundance Now, and IFC Films Unlimited containing original, award-winning series, popular movies, festival favorites, plus horror, sci-fi, true crime, and thrillers. You can subscribe to AMC+ for $4.99 / month or save with the annual plan for $59.88 / year.

If you are a Prime Video subscriber, subscribing through that platform allows you to watch either in Prime Video or on the AMC+ app.

What does all this mean for the prospective Philo subscriber? It’s very simple; if you have been thinking of signing up for Philo, but only want to pay $25 per month to access the service, make sure you do so before Wednesday, June 12. Doing so will give you the choice to opt into AMC+ access or skip it, and new customers who sign up after June 12 may not have the same option.

The addition of AMC+ isn’t the only content upgrade Philo has made lately. It recently created a new platform allowing all viewers to watch the 70+ free streaming channels available with the service, regardless of whether they pay to subscribe to Philo or not. Paid Philo customers also get access to these channels, and can watch them any time at no additional cost.

Even at $28 per month, Philo is the cheapest live TV streaming service available outside of Comcast’s NOW TV. Existing customers can choose to pay even less, however, if they opt out of receiving AMC+ with their Philo plan starting on June 12. That means today is your last chance to guarantee that you have the ability to lock in the $25 monthly price for Philo and choose for yourself whether you want AMC+ access to the service.

Philo

Your subscription includes ad-supported AMC+. Anyone can sign up for Philo’s free service, which offers 80+ channels.

They have a single $28 plan with major channels from A&E Networks, AMC Networks, Discovery, Hallmark, and ViacomCBS. These include A&E, AMC, BET, Comedy Central, Discovery, HGTV, MTV, Nickelodeon, and Paramount Network. The service also has a Unlimited DVR, which now keeps your recordings for up to a year.
