Although Sling TV doesn’t offer local channels in most markets, they are trying to make it easier for streamers to watch locals alongside Sling content. Those with 2020 LG Smart TVs (webOS 5.0+) can now add free local TV channels to Sling TV interface, by connecting an antenna to the television.
Once it’s enabled, you can watch channels like CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC, and PBS directly from the Sling TV grid guide.
How to Add Locals to Sling on LG Smart TV
- Go to TV “Settings” Tab
- Select “All Settings” Option
- Select “Channels” and then “Channel Tuning”
- Select “Auto-Tuning”
- Once it is tuned, open the Sling TV app
With the rising costs to carry local channels on Live TV Streaming Services, Sling TV has been actively trying to give low-cost alternatives. For those without a compatible LG Smart TV, there are alternatives to getting locals into the Sling TV app.
In December, Sling launched AirTV 2, a new Wi-Fi-enabled network tuner. The new device wirelessly delivers free local channels to connected devices, smartphones and tablets, both in and out of the home, and improves its predecessor’s original design in both size and connectivity.
With AirTV 2 when connected to an antenna, users have access to free local channels like ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and PBS, via the Sling app on Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV and iOS and Android devices.
While AirTV 2 is available for $99.99, Sling TV has a limited time offer to get the device for free. New Sling TV customers can get an AirTV 2 and OTA antenna for free ($144 value) when they pre-pay for three months of service ($90).
