Ewan McGregor to Reprise His Role as Obi Wan Kenobi For Disney+ Series

Stephanie Sengwe

Ewan McGregor is reportedly going to make a comeback to the Star Wars franchise. The Emmy award-winning actor is rumored to be in talks to return to a galaxy far far away as the Jedi Obi Wan Kenobi.

This new Obi Wan series, would join two previously announced Disney+ live-action shows—The Mandalorian, a 10-episode Star Wars series from Jon Favreau starring Pedro Pascal as well as another series based on Cassian Andor, the character first introduced in the film Rogue One with Diego Luna reprising his role from the film.

McGregor previously played the character in the three Star Wars prequels The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. There were previous reports stating that the actor would star in a standalone Obi Wan film, but the production never came to fruition because of the under-performing Star Wars standalone film Solo.

Disney+ will launch their streaming service on November 12th at just $6.99 a month, nearly half the price of Netflix ($12.99). Starting with the 2019 theatrical slate, all Disney/Pixar/Marvel/Star Wars films will become exclusive to Disney+ meaning movies like the live-action versions of Aladdin, The Lion King, Captain Marvel, and Avengers: Endgame will only be available to stream on Disney+.

The first year will include 25 new original series, 10+ movies, 7,500 past episodes, 100 recent movies, and 400 library titles including the entire Disney Vault. Previously, many of those new releases and library films would have gone to Netflix as part of a distribution deal that started in 2016.
