The Puppy Bowl, created to advocate for animal adoption, will see two teams — Team Fluff and Team Ruff — of cute little pups go paw to paw as they compete to be awarded the Chewy “Lombarky” Trophy and possibly get new homes. This year’s match will showcase the largest number of dog players than ever before — with 96 puppies from 61 shelters — as Animal Planet hopes that its record of 100 percent post-game adoptions continues, Fox News reports.
While many of the puppers come from shelters in the U.S., this year also features canines from places such as St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Toronto and Cartagena, Colombia,
“There will also be five special needs players up for adoption, including Ferris, a three-legged Labrador Retriever mix; two hearing-impaired pups: Kismet, a Great Dane, and Paprika, a Chihuahua mix; Filbert, a blind and hearing-impaired Shetland Sheepdog mix; and Rooster, an American Staffordshire Terrier/Bulldog mix with a cleft palate,” Fox News said.
Just like the Super Bowl, the Puppy Bowl will also be star-studded with comedian Whitney Cummings, “Property Brothers” stars Jonathan and Drew Scott as well singer Emmylou Harris. Dan Schachner will return as an announcer for his ninth game and joining him will be TV correspondent Jill Rappaport.
