Disney+ has put a face to the remake of the 1989 comedy “Turner & Hooch,” about an adventurous detective and Hooch, his slobbering canine sidekick.
Josh Peck (“Drake & Josh,” “Danny Collins”) will play the role originated by Tom Hanks in the 1989 movie. The streamer is rebooting the original into a 12-episode series.
Disney+’s “Turner & Hooch” also has a new career trajectory for the lead. Peck plays an ambitious U.S. Marshall who inherits a difficult dog he didn’t want — but discovers he may be the partner he needs.
Matt Nix (“Burn Notice”) will double as writer-executive producer for the series, which is owned by Disney. Though the film did poorly with critics, it was a box-office hit with audiences, earning $71 million.
No word yet on a premiere date for “Turner & Hooch,” which is one of several reboots in the works at the streamer.
Peck first came to audience’s attention in the Nickelodeon comedy about two stepbrothers, “Drake & Josh.” Since then, he’s also been featured in the indie drama “Locating Silver Lake” and the Fox comedy “Grandfathered” with John Stamos.
Three years ago, he started “Shua Vlogs,” a lifestyle-comedy channel on YouTube.
