Missing ‘Succession’ and ‘Industry’? ‘La Maison’ Should Be Your Next Streaming Obsession

It’s been over a year since we said goodbye to the Roy family and their dysfunctional dealings on HBO’s top-tier “Succession,” and while we still have a Waystar RoyCo-sized hole in our hearts, there’s thankfully no shortage of workplace and family drama on our TVs, from “The Bear” to another recent HBO hit, “Industry,” which just wrapped up its third season with its water-cooler finale.

However, if your favorites are on hiatus and you’re looking for more industry drama for your days off, Apple TV+’s new French fashion drama “La Maison” is the perfect fit!

About “La Maison”

Created by José Caltagirone and Valentine Milville, the French-language family drama takes place within a Paris-based high-fashion atelier, where two “illustrious, dysfunctional, and powerful rival families… vie for dominance in the cutthroat world of high fashion.” After century-old legendary haute couture house LEDU is thrown into scandal after a viral video from star designer Vincent Ledu, the family business is forced to reinvent or die, bringing in a visionary next-gen designer to help save them all among ruthless family alliances and as a ruthless CEO launches an offensive to acquire LEDU.

Early in its debut season, the new series, which is coming in as other similar dramas are in vogue, has already been drawing comparisons to “Succession,” as well as the French talent agency dramedy “Call My Agent!” and Netflix’s guiltiest pleasure “Emily in Paris.” “La Maison” fits perfectly in the middle, giving viewers an inside look into the world of high fashion from workshops to the runway, complete with cameos from real industry figures and nods to real fashion feuds. Plus, few shows look as good as the fashion drama, with direction from the award-winning filmmakers behind “The Returned” and “Lupin” and costume design from César winner Carine Sarfati.

But this is no documentary: French, frothy, and occasionally fromage-y, “La Maison” is perfect for those looking for all the cattiness of the upper crust, bare threads and all, led by a cast full of multi-time César Award winners and nominees, including Lambert Wilson, Amira Casar, Carole Bouquet, Zita Hanrot, Pierre Deladonchamps, Antoine Reinartz, Anne Consigny, Florence Loiret Caille, Ji-Min Park, and Corentin Fila. Even when “La Maison” straddles the line between prestige drama and soap opera, you’re getting a show.

The 10-episode “La Maison” premiered on Friday, Sept. 20 with only three episodes released so far, giving you plenty of time to catch up on all the dysfunctional Ledu family drama. New episodes will be released every Friday through Nov. 15, exclusively on Apple TV+.
