    An August day 1972, Rainer Hartleb stepped into a classroom in the Stockholm suburb of Jordbro and met the students in class 1D for the first time. The idea was to portray the children’s way through the elementary school in one of the “new Sweden” suburbs. But the project grew and continued into the 1980s, 90s and 2000s. A curious, penetrating and tender portrait of a generation that grew up in the Swedish Million Program in the 1970s and which has become middle-aged in a globalized 2000s.

    Forty years ago, the first film about the Jordbro families was released. The latest one came out in 2006. When Rainer Hartleb once more trains his camera on the families, the children of the Jordbro children have grown up and live far from the area where the Jordbro story began.
