In August, is was announced that Disney+ is taking us back to the early 2000s with a reboot of Lizzie McGuire, with Hilary Duff reprising her role as the title character.
In the sequel, Lizzie McGuire will be a 30-year-old millennial navigating life in the Big Apple — in her dream job as an assistant to a fancy New York City decorator. Just like the 2001 version, this series will also include an animated Lizzie, giving quirky and honest commentary on what is going on with her 30-year-old counterpart.
With the show at the early stages of production, Disney shared that Lizzie McGuire’s entire family is returning to the show. Hallie Todd (Jo), Robert Carradine (Sam), and Jake Thomas (Matt McGuire) will each return in their roles to fill out the entire McGuire family.
Just like there is no Lizzie McGuire without Hilary Duff, there is no McGuire family without Hallie, Robert, and Jake,” added Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide. “The original series holds a special place in the hearts of so many, and we can’t wait to introduce fans, both old and new, to an older, wiser, yet still perfectly imperfect Lizzie.”
Production for the show is in early stages, with the cast beginning to do table reads of the initial episode for the show. While a release date for the show hasn’t been confirmed, it’s expected to debut on Disney+ at some point next year.
