Apple TV+ Debuts New Selection of 50+ Licensed Movies for a Limited Time

The list of movies is only guaranteed to be available until the end of June, but until then Apple TV+ customers can watch some true classics.

Apple TV+ has licensed a new batch of movies, including The Mummy and It.

Apple TV+ is continuing to step out of its wheelhouse and try something new in 2024. At the start of March, the streamer imported a wide selection of movies from various Hollywood studios, marking the first time in its history that Apple TV+ had added on a substantial number of non-original titles. Those films were only available for a limited time, some as short as a few weeks, but it proved popular enough for the platform to add more in April. Now, as first reported by 9to5 Mac, Apple TV+ is rolling out another wave of licensed films as it tries to determine which ones its audience are responding to the most.

Key Details:

  • A total of 56 new movies are now available to stream on Apple TV+.
  • Some titles have streamed on Apple TV+ before, while others are completely new to the service.
  • This batch of movies will be available on Apple TV+ until at least the end of June.

This is the third total batch of licensed movies introduced to Apple TV+ this year. After the initial round of 51 movies that hit the streamer in March, Apple TV+ launched another 29 titles at the start of April. Apple had used select licensed movies to promote its own originals in the past, but would usually just bring on one or two other movies featuring the star of Apple’s original picture.

This time around, Apple has introduced a selection of 56 movies to its catalog. The films will be available to stream until at least June 30, as Apple may decide to bring another batch of movies to the service for July.

The newly licensed movies available on Apple TV+ include:

  • The Fifth Element
  • Friends with Benefits
  • Fury
  • Galaxy Quest
  • Gone Girl
  • GoodFellas
  • Inception
  • IT
  • Kingsman: The Secret Service
  • Kinsey
  • Kung Fu Panda 2
  • Magic Mike
  • Master and Commander
  • Miss Congeniality
  • Moulin Rouge!
  • The Mummy
  • My Best Friend’s Wedding
  • Mystic River
  • Neighbors
  • Oblivion
  • Old School
  • Pacific Rim
  • Predator
  • Prometheus
  • Puss in Boots
  • Saving Private Ryan
  • Scarface
  • Tombstone
  • The Town
  • This Is 40
  • Two Weeks Notice
  • Underworld
  • Unforgiven
  • White House Down
  • The Wolf of Wall Street
  • Wyatt Earp
  • You’ve Got Mail

Some of these movies are completely new to Apple TV+, while others have appeared on the streamer before. “Saving Private Ryan” and “The Wolf of Wall Street” were included in the March batch of movies added by the streamer, for example. To me, this suggests that Apple TV+ is seeing which types of movies do best on its service by themselves, and which are best at steering viewers toward other content on the streamer.

Licensed movies have done well for Apple TV+ so far, and have dramatically boosted the number of titles in the streamer’s library overall. Licensed movies are frequently featured on Apple TV+’s Top 10 list, showing that viewers are responding enthusiastically to their introduction.

If you’re an Apple TV+ subscriber, head over to the streamer and check out the new selection of licensed movies now available. If you’re not a subscriber yet, you can enjoy a seven-day free trial of the service to watch the movies, or to stream originals like the sci-fi thriller “Dark Matter,” the gritty crime drama “Presumed Innocent,” the uplifting “Ted Lasso” and dozens of others.
