AT&T CEO, Randall Stephenson Says HBO Max Will Feature Live Sports

Stephanie Sengwe

The anticipation for HBO Max just go hotter as AT&T executives announced that the new streaming platform will eventually add live events to accompany its slew of original content.

In an earnings call this morning, AT&T CEO, Randall Stephenson assured listeners that HBO Max will include premium live sports such as NBA, MLB and NCAA Basketball in the future. He stated, “As you think about NBA, Major League Baseball—content rights that are held by the Turner Companies—those are important variables and they have been very important in making Turner very unique content as we market it to other distributors, but also as we begin to put that content on our HBO Max platform. This won’t be at the early stages of HBO Max, but you should assume that ultimately HBO Max will have live elements.”

HBO Max is also going to include news elements that the company hopes will do well for the platform.

Though AT&T subsidiary and HBO Max parent company, WarnerMedia has been giving out bits of information since the service was first announced back in January, more information is sure to be revealed at their media day on October 29. The event will be held at the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, and will presumably cover pricing, subscription features and product demos. Reports say HBO Max will compete with Netflix, Hulu, and Disney Plus, among others.
