Critics on Rotten Tomatoes have praised the film as one of director Yorgos Lanthimos’ most misanthropic outings. It has a 73% rating from reviewers, who single out the cast of Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons and Willem Defoe for especial praise.

When Will ‘Kinds of Kindness’ Stream, and on Which Service?
Ever since Disney purchased the vast majority of Fox’s entertainment assets in 2019, determining where Searchlight films go to stream has been a cinch. “Kinds of Kindness” is being distributed by Searchlight in the U.S., which means it will become available first on Hulu once it’s done with its exclusive period in theaters and on rental and purchase platforms which allow viewers to stream movies that are cinematic exclusives.
“Kinds of Kindness” definitely looks like the kind of movie that some will want to pause in the middle and come back to later, but it may be a few months before you can stream it on Hulu. Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos last collaborated on the movie “Poor Things,” which saw Stone win an Academy Award for her performance. That movie took 92 days to arrive on Hulu after its December 2023 theatrical release.
I’ll shrink that figure to 91 days for “Kinds of Kindness,” as that will pin my prediction for the movie to debut on Hulu on Friday, Sept. 20. Streamers usually put out new movie releases on a Friday, and the three-month window will still allow Disney to maximize the film’s earning potential before shifting it to streaming.
