DIRECTV STREAM Subscribers in St. Louis, Salt Lake City Now Have Access to The CW
KPLR-CW in St. Louis and KUCW-CW in Salt Lake City are now available in the DIRECTV STREAM channel lineup in those markets.
DIRECTV STREAM is getting even closer to The CW. Despite the fact that a majority of the channel is owned by Nexstar, which DIRECTV says has been unlawfully exercising control over stations owned in name by other broadcasters, DIRECTV STREAM customers in more and more markets are gaining access to CW programming.
- DIRECTV has confirmed to The Streamable that KLPR-CW in St. Louis and KUCW-CW in Salt Lake City are now available for DIRECTV STREAM users in those markets.
- DIRECTV also added CW channels in four other markets this month.
- The provider still has not reached a resolution with TEGNA, which may cause 64 local affiliates across the United States to go dark for DIRECTV subscribers on Nov. 30.

Which DIRECTV STREAM Markets Are Getting The CW This Week?
A DIRECTV spokesperson confirmed to The Streamable that “KPLR-CW in St. Louis and KUCW-CW in Salt Lake City were successfully added to all local streaming lineups in those two metro regions Tuesday afternoon.” This brings The CW’s wide array of programming, from shows like “Son of a Critch” to sporting events from the ACC and much more.
This is the second time this month that new DIRECTV markets have gotten access to The CW. Four more Nexstar-owned CW affiliates joined the DIRECTV lineup in mid-November, allowing customers in Denver, Portland, San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose and Tampa-St. Petersburg-Sarasota to watch the channel as well.
Has DIRECTV Settled its Issues with TEGNA?
Earlier this week, viewers in dozens of markets began receiving word that DIRECTV might lose access to TEGNA-owned local affiliates of channels like ABC, CBS and NBC. A dispute over retransmission fees between the two companies could cause TEGNA-owned channels to be blacked out on DIRECTV, DIRECTV STREAM and AT&T U-Verse starting Nov. 30.
There has been no word on a new retransmission agreement between the two companies, so customers should assume the blackout date of Thursday evening at 8 p.m. ET is still in effect. The two will likely keep negotiating until the final hour, so viewers can hold out some hope that a resolution will come before any channels go missing.
DIRECTV was able to settle its retransmission dispute with Nexstar earlier this year, though that process took several months to accomplish. The two companies seem to be slowly normalizing relations, as the addition of two new CW stations to DIRECTV STREAM’s channel lineup would suggest.
DIRECTV STREAM
DIRECTV STREAM is a live TV streaming service, which is essentially the streaming version of the DIRECTV service. All packages include local channels and at least 31 of the top 35 cable channels. New subscribers can get a free Gemini streaming device from the company, in which case the service is called “DIRECTV via Internet.”
