On Sunday, the NASCAR Cup Series is looking to pick up from where they left off pre-pandemic. Drivers will hit the track continuing the season from the four races they partook in before racing was halted.
Sunday’s race is promising to be full of action, not only because of the return of NASCAR, but because of the list of drivers competing. After a harrowing accident at the Daytona 500, Ryan Newman is cleared to race again. Kyle Larson won’t be returning this go-round as he was suspended due to racist comments, according to NBC. He will be replaced by former Cup Series champion Matt Kenseth. Timmy Hill, who also made some waves during NASCAR’s iRacing circuit, is also a promising contender.
Because the coronavirus is still at large, NASCAR is taking precautions to run the race as safely as possible. “NASCAR has created a maximum crew number that each team is allowed to bring to the track. They will also be doing temperature checks every time sometime enters the track. NASCAR felt it is not their place to request mass testing while many areas of the country still struggle to keep up. Any violations of their procedures will result in a fine,” NBC Sports noted.
