Every year, the Prefontaine Classic serves as the most prestigious international track and field event held in the United States, but with the Olympics just two months away, there is a little more at stake than normal this year. On Saturday, May 25, the best athletes in the world will come together in Eugene, Oregon to see how they stack up. This Diamond Series event will also serve as something of a preview of the U.S. Olympic Trials, which will also be held in Eugene in June. You can catch all of the action on NBC beginning at 4 p.m. ET. You can watch NBC with a 5-Day Free Trial of DIRECTV STREAM. You can also watch with Hulu Live TV, Fubo, Peacock, or YouTube TV. About 2024 Prefontaine Classic
The reigning world champion in the 100m-dash Sha’Carri Richardson and the shot put world record holder — as well as reigning Olympic and world champion — Ryan Crouser will be front and center for NBC’s coverage of the Prefontaine Classic on Saturday, May 25. The action will take place at the University of Oregon’s Historic Hayward Field.
Richardson will square off against Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah, who won gold in the 100m and 200m at both the 2016 and 2020 Games. Also in the field will be Ivory Coast’s Marie-Josée Ta Lou, and Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred.
In the men’s 100m, the reigning indoor 60m world champ Christian Coleman leads a field that also includes Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala.
One of the most anticipated events at the Pre Classic every season is the Bowerman Mile. This year it will feature the season debut of the reigning 1500m Olympic gold medalist Jakob Ingebrigtsen. He will be up against the 2016 Olympic champion Matthew Centrowitz and the last three 1500m world champions Geordie Beamish, Josh Kerr, and Jake Wightman. This event is already being hailed as the most competitive mile field ever assembled.
Paul Swangard will call all of the action while former Olympians Ato Boldon, Sanya-Richards Ross, Kara Goucher, and Trey Hardee will serve as analysts. Lewis Johnson will also be on hand reporting from field level.
