One of the most prestigious rugby events in the world kicks off on Saturday, Feb. 3 as a half dozen countries get together for the Six Nations tournament. All six of the participating teams are currently ranked in the top 11 of the World Rugby Rankings, and England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland, and Wales are all vying to increase their standings. You will be able to watch all of the action on CNBC and NBC via a live TV streaming service, as well as on Peacock. About 2024 Six Nations Rugby Championship

The Six Nations Championship began in 1893 as the Home Nations Championship, before becoming the Five Nations Championship in 1910 with the addition of France, and the Six Nations in 2000 when Italy joined the fray. The home-field advantage for every matchup alternates every year.

Ireland won the 2023 Six Nations tournament and its 15th Six Nations outright championship last year. The Irish became the first side to win the outright title, Grand Slam, and Triple Crown in one tournament since Wales accomplished the same feat in 2019. France is aiming to win its second tournament in three years, while Wales is shooting for its 29th overall title, which would tie it with England for the most championships in tournament history.

Currently, all six teams in the field are ranked in the top 11 of the World Rugby Rankings. Ireland is ranked second behind only South Africa. France is in fourth, England is at No. 5, Scotland is in sixth, and Wales is eighth. Italy is the only country not in the top, but is just on the outside at 11.

With every win, a team earns four points, while they get two for a draw, and zero for a loss. However, that is not the only way that teams can earn points. If a side scores four tries in a match, or if they lose by seven or fewer points, they receive bonus points.

At the end of the five weeks of competition on March 16, the team with the most points wins the Six Nations Championship.
