About ‘Black Cake’ Premiere

The roots of “Black Cake” lie decades back, in 1960s Jamaica. A bride named Covey disappears into the surf along the coast, leaving a host of unanswered questions about her recently murdered husband. Was Covey a victim too, or was she responsible for her husband’s death and forced to flee? Did she die, or has she simply vanished from the face of the Earth?

Decades later, a widow named Eleanor finally succumbs to a long battle with cancer. She leaves a flash drive to her two estranged children, Benny and Byron, who are reluctant to watch at first. But as they dive deeper into Eleanor’s story, they hear more about her previously untold journey from the Caribbean to the United States, and all of their preconceived notions about their family history are challenged.
