Halloween is supposed to be a time of revelry and celebration. But it turned into a nightmare for thousands of partiers packed into Seoul’s trendy Itaewon neighborhood in 2022, as a mass panic led to the deaths of hundreds of young people that could have been prevented. “Crush,” which premieres on Paramount+ on Tuesday, Oct. 17 tells the story of these young people through eyewitness accounts, and outlines why the horrific tragedy never had to occur. About 'Crush'
On Oct. 29, 2022, over 100,000 eager revelers packed into the bar-laden streets of the Itaewon neighborhood in Seoul, South Korea. But when a mass hysteria gripped the crowd, 159 people were suffocated in a shocking incident that the world is still trying to come to terms with.
Now, audiences can go into the crowd for the first time through first-hand accounts from eyewitnesses, cell phone footage and statements from people who lived through the tragedy. “Crush” tackles disturbing questions that have rocked South Korea as victims’ families cry out for justice, accusing their government of being unprepared and slow to respond.
The series is a cautionary tale for all, but especially for the young, as the victims of this incident were mostly in their 20s. “Crush” is an astonishing tale of fate and randomness, how the lives of strangers can intersect and the courage some people find in moments of crisis.
