It has been 60 years since Dr. Steve Hardy and nurse Jessie Brewer clocked in on ABC’s “General Hospital,” daytime’s longest-running soap opera still on the air. On the heels of a near-sweep at last month’s Daytime Emmy Awards, “GH” will celebrate six decades on the air with a special look at the iconic series “General Hospital: 60 Years of Stars and Storytelling.” The special will air on Thursday, Jan. 4 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC and will feature many of the ground-breaking moments from the show’s history as well as many of your favorite stars, past and present. “General Hospital: 60 Years of Stars and Storytelling” will look back at the incredible history of one of television’s most enduring staples. Throughout its history, “General Hospital” has been on the forefront of discussing difficult and timely issues before nearly any other program on television did. From HIV/AIDS to LGBTQ issues; from bipolar disorder to sexual assault; from gentrification to war refugees; from civil rights to drug and alcohol addiction; from breast cancer to Alzheimer’s and more, over the decades, “GH” has highlighted some of the most important issues of our time.

Thursday’s special will look back at some of those trailblazing storylines while also celebrating the drama, fun, and romance that comes with being a resident of Port Charles, New York.

The special will feature “GH” cast members Maurice Benard, Jane Elliot, Genie Francis, Finola Hughes, Kelly Monaco, Laura Wright and more. Joining the robust slate of current and past cast members for this retrospective look at “General Hospital” are recent “Dancing with the Stars” winner and pro dancer Val Chmerkovskiy, “GH” alums Emma Samms, Rick Springfield, and Amber Tamblyn, ESPN star and “GH” recurring guest star Stephen A. Smith, and many other all-star guests.
