About ‘Heaven Down Here’

In “Heaven Down Here,” four disparate and desperate people are forced to spend Christmas Eve in a diner when they find themselves stuck when an unexpected snowstorm hits. Imami (played by Broadway’s Krystal Joy Brown) is a waitress at the diner struggling to make ends meet for her two children following the passing of her husband. Trying to pick up a little extra cash by working the Christmas Eve shift, she continually clashes with her boss Dan (Richard Harmon), who makes pre-ghosts Ebenezer Scrooge look festive.

Also stranded in the diner is local pastor Felix (Juan Riedinger) who is beginning to question his faith as he struggles to find food for his most needy parishioners and is increasingly alienated from his son. Hospice nurse Clara (Tina Lifford) is dealing with a difficult patient (Phylicia Rashad) as her daughter gets ready to move away. Despite all of their individual challenges, the four very different stranded people find that they might all hold the keys to answering each other’s prayers.

“Heaven Down Here” is the penultimate 2023 Miracles of Christmas movie on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. The slate will conclude on Thursday, Dec. 21 with “Miracle in Bethlehem, PA.”

    Inspired by Mickey Guyton’s song of the same name, “Heaven Down Here” tells the story of four disparate people who find themselves stranded in a local diner on Christmas Eve when a snowstorm hits the town. Imani is a widowed mother of two who’s having trouble making ends meet and reluctantly agrees to work the Christmas Eve shift, where she clashes with her boss Dan, who doesn’t exactly embody the Christmas spirit. Felix is a local pastor desperately trying to secure food for parishioners while his faith is challenged by his son’s alienation. Clara is a hospice nurse with an obstinate patient and whose daughter is moving away, causing her to question her place in this world. Throughout the evening, these four bicker, bond and unwittingly provide each other with the answer to their respective prayers.
