About ‘John Lennon: Murder Without a Trial’ Premiere

Forty-three years ago this week, one of the most famous people in the world, John Lennon, was murdered outside of his New York City home at The Dakota, by Mark David Chapman. Lennon’s killer had been a longtime fan of The Beatles, but after experiencing a religious conversion, began to plot the assassination following Lennon’s statement that the band was bigger than Jesus. Over the past two decades, Chapman has unsuccessfully attempted to gain parole nearly a dozen times, with his next hearing set for February 2024.

Over three 45-minute episodes, “John Lennon: Murder Without A Trial” investigates all aspects of the singer’s murder. The doc includes interviews from key witnesses including Richard Peterson, a taxi driver who saw the shooting unfold; Jay Hastings, the doorman at The Dakota who heard the last words Lennon ever said; David Suggs, who served as Chapman’s defense lawyer; Elliot Mintz, friend and confident to Lennon and Yoko Ono; and Dr. Naomi Goldstein, the psychiatrist who first evaluated Chapman.
