The movie follows Kaitlyn, a teen whose world is turned upside down when her parents announce a split. Desperate for money, she hatches a plan to steal a rare bird, but things go sideways for Kaitlyn in the best way possible when she meets the bird’s owner. Kaitlyn (Brooklynn Prince) is more or less a normal teen, until her parents let her know that they’re getting divorced. She’s also about to lose her home, and she decides to hatch a plan with her friend Adam (Che Tafari) to steel a rare racing pigeon in order to help her mom (Kelly Reilly) pay for their house.

But when Kaitlyn meets the bird’s owner Jaan (“Succession” star Brian Cox), she soon forms a bond with the eccentric pigeon racer. It becomes harder and harder to follow through on her plot to steal and sell the bird the closer she becomes with Jaan, and soon Kaitlyn realizes she’s developed a real friendship with him. But how will her improved outlook on life help her overcome the challenges Kaitlyn faces?
