The British royal family is no stranger to scandal these days, but the new series “Mary & George” will go a long way toward showing that nobility is accustomed to behaving badly! This new series debuts on Friday, April 5 at 9 p.m. on the STARZ cable channel and streaming service, and it centers on a 17th century English noblewoman with her heart set on one goal: having her son seduce the king! You can watch with a subscription to STARZ.
About 'Mary & George'
“Mary & George” features Academy Award-winner Julianne Moore as Mary Villiers, Countess of Buckingham in 17th century England. Life is good, but it could be better for Mary, and she sees an opportunity to advance the social station of her family about as far as it could be advanced: seduce King James I and become the power behind the throne.
But Mary cannot entrust this task to just anyone, nor would she be able to execute such a maneuver herself. She turns to her son George, a naïve romantic who alongside his ruthless mother was prepared to stop at nothing to get to the top. Mary’s endless schemes could land her and her son in one of the most powerful positions in the world, but if she’s caught it could bean death for them both.
