From the top of the worldwide charts to their infamous undoing, Milli Vanilli dominated music headlines in the early 1990s. Now, after making its world premiere at the 2023 Tribeca Festival, the documentary film “Milli Vanilli” will take a look at the duo’s emergence and ascension, winning the Grammy for Best New Artist, to their downfall after it was revealed they had been lipsyncing during albums and performances. More than 30 years later, it will also try to answer the enduring question: how many people actually knew what was going on behind the scenes? “Milli Vanilli” will premiere exclusively on Paramount+ on Tuesday, Oct. 24. You can watch with a 7-Day Free Trial of Paramount Plus.
About 'Milli Vanilli'
“Milli Vanilli” tells the true story of Robert “Rob” Pilatus and Fabrice “Fab” Morvan, two friends who came from broken and abusive households in Germany and shared a goal to become superstars.
The duo sold their first album in 1989, going platinum six times in the United States and selling more than 30 million singles internationally of their hit song “Girl You Know It’s True.” After becoming the world’s most popular pop duo and winning the Grammy for Best New Artist, their ascension came to a devastating crash when it was revealed the duo had been lipsyncing throughout their young career.
Now, more than 30 years later, “Milli Vanilli” will tell the story of the duo from fame to shame, as well as Pilatus’ death in 1998, Morvan’s subsequent solo career, and the influences on the pair that may or may not have made them into a scapegoat.
