How to Watch Kansas City Chiefs vs. New England Patriots: NFL Game Live Stream Info, TV Channel, Start Time, Odds

The New England Patriots host the Kansas City Chiefs from Gillette Stadium on Sunday, Dec. 17 with kickoff at 1 p.m. ET. The Patriots have struggled mightily this year. They’re 3-10 on the season, sitting dead-last in the AFC, but are coming off an upset win over the Pittsburgh Steelers 21-18. The Chiefs, meanwhile, sit first in the AFC West, with an 8-5 record, and are hoping to win out and give themselves a chance at a first-round bye. They haven’t helped their cause of late though, having lost two in a row, most recently to the Buffalo Bills in entertaining fashion when a late offside call negated the go-ahead touchdown for the Chiefs. They ended up losing 20-17.

The Chiefs come in as the favorite on the road, but they’ve lost two in a row. Look for them to shake off a frustrating loss to Buffalo last week that saw receiver Kadarius Toney called off-side after he took a cross-field lateral from Travis Kelce (who had caught Mahomes’ pass) and finished what would have been a 49-yard touchdown. The play was called back, and Mahomes went on to throw three incomplete passes, allowing the Bills to run out the clock and take the game 20-17.

Historically, Kansas City has a slight advantage in this head-to-head matchup, going 20-16-3 all-time against New England.

Team Stats

Statistic Kansas City New England
Points Scored per Game 22.5 13.0
Points Allowed per Game 17.5 20.9
Total Yards Gained 4,697 3,788
Total Yards Allowed 3,899 3,990

Kansas City has been rock solid this year, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Their 17.5 points per game is No. 3 in the NFL behind only the 49ers and Ravens. They are giving up just 299.9 yards per game, which ranks No. 6 in the league. Justin Reid leads the team in tackles with 74, while Drue Tranquill has 73. On offense, Patrick Mahomes has racked up 3,398 total passing yards and has thrown for 23 touchdowns this season in 13 games played.

Meanwhile, nothing has gone right this year for the Patriots. They’re already eliminated from the playoffs, and they sit dead-last in the NFL in points per game with 13.0. Add to that speculation that legendary coach Bill Belichick could be out in 2024 and you’ve got a disaster of a season that Patriots fans can’t wait to move on from.

Kansas City and New England Quarterback Matchup:

QB Team CMP ATT CMP% YDS AVG TD INT RTG
Patrick Mahomes Kansas City 326 487 66.9 3,398 7.0 23 11 93.3
Bailey Zappe New England 51 92 55.4 539 5.9 3 3 70.0

Last year’s league MVP and Super Bowl Champion, Patrick Mahomes, has been impressive again this year but is struggling as of late. He sits No. 8 in the NFL in total passing yards with 3,398, while his 326 completions rank No. 2 behind only Sam Howell. He’s tied for fifth in the NFL with 23 touchdowns, and he’s averaging 7.0 yards per play with a 66.9 completion rate. Mahomes is coming off a tough outing against the Bills that saw him go 25-for-43 (58.1 percent), tossing for 271 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

At the other end of the field, it’s likely Bailey Zappe will get the start after an impressive three-touchdown performance against the Steelers where he went 19-for-28, throwing for 240 yards and one interception in the win. Zappe is taking over from the struggling Mac Jones, who has thrown for 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions this year while racking up 2,120 yards.
