The Eagles come into this one as the heavy favorite, despite being on a three-game slide. Even with their recent struggles, though, there are various paths to clinching the No. 1 seed, but they’ll need some help. The Eagles need to win all their remaining games and hope that the San Francisco 49ers lose at least two of their final three. They’ll also need the Detroit Lions, who are also 10-4, to lose at least one of their last three games for the Eagles to have a chance at the top seed.

If the playoffs started today, the Eagles would be the No. 5 seed, which would pit them against the No. 4 seed Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild card round. However, if they win the division and secure the No. 2 seed, they would face the No. 7 seed - currently the Los Angeles Rams.

Historically, the Eagles hold the advantage in this head-to-head, going 92-87-2 all-time against the Giants.

Team Stats

Statistic New York Philadelphia
Points Scored per Game 13.5 25.6
Points Allowed per Game 24.1 24.4
Total Yards Gained 3,664 4,985
Total Yards Allowed 4,994 4,898

The strength of the Eagles this year has been their offense. They have a strong rushing offense, ranking No. 8 in the NFL, and a high-scoring offense, with their 24.4 points per game ranking in No. 7. Jalen Hurts has thrown for 3,335 yards (No. 13) with 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions this season. He’s also been a threat on the ground, rushing for 542 and 14 rushing touchdowns. Wide receiver A.J. Brown leads the team with 1,314 receiving yards, good enough for No. 3 in the NFL, with seven touchdowns. Their pass defense has struggled though, ranking No. 28 in the league, which could be an area of concern against the Giants.

The Giants sit at less than one percent to make the playoffs, so they’d need something close to a miracle to get back into the mix. A win against the Eagles would improve those odds slightly though. The Giants offense has struggled all year, averaging 13.5 points per game, which is second-worst in the NFL. They’ll need Tommy DeVito and Saquon Barkley to find their form and exploit the Eagles’ weaker pass defense if they’re to have a chance.

New York and Philadelphia Quarterback Matchup:

QB Team CMP ATT CMP% YDS AVG TD INT RTG
Tommy DeVito New York 103 160 64.4 1,032 6.4 8 3 91.5
Jalen Hurts Philadelphia 303 461 65.7 3,335 7.2 19 12 89.9

The Rookie out of Illinois - Tommy DeVito - should have plenty of confidence going into this game against the Eagles. He was named “NFC Offensive Player of the Week” for his impressive performance against the Green Bay Packers. In that game, he went 17-for-2, tossing for 158 yards, scoring one touchdown without any interceptions. DeVito also showed off his running ability, rushing 10 times for 71 yards. He was also the first Giants rookie quarterback to win three consecutive starts since Phil Simms in 1979 and the first undrafted rookie since 1967 with a 100+ rating in three straight starts.

Jalen Hurts has been a dual threat all season long. Over 14 games, he’s got a passer rating of 89.9, completing 65.7% of his passes. Hurts has thrown for 3,335 yards and 19 touchdowns, with 12 interceptions, while adding 542 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns. He’s been struggling of late, though, and is coming off a tough outing against the Seahawks where he went 17-for-31, tossing for 143 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions.
