How to Watch Renee Bach Documentary ‘Savior Complex’ on Apple TV, Fire TV, Roku & Mobile

As the saying goes, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. In 2009, when American missionary Renee Bach founded Serving His Children, a charity for malnourished children in Uganda, she believed it was her calling from God. However, after shocking allegations came to light about Bach treating the children on her own without a medical license, the events opened up a wider conversation about “white saviorism.” The new HBO docuseries “Savior Complex” will take a look at the complex case, with exclusive interviews from Bach, her accusers, lawyers, activists, and more. The three-episode series will debut on HBO and Max beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 9 p.m. ET. You can watch with a subscription to Max.

About Renee Bach Documentary ‘Savior Complex’

The latest from Emmy-winning filmmaker Jackie Jesko, “Savior Complex” chronicles the controversial story surrounding Renee Bach, a 19-year-old homeschooled high school graduate in Virginia and an Evangelical missionary who founded Serving His Children, a organization to help feed and care for malnourished children in Uganda.

Years later, amid whistleblower accusations that Bach was treating the sick children herself with no medical qualifications, a social media activist group called No White Saviors began to draw public attention to the situation. Called the “Angel of Death” and a “poster child for neocolonialism,” Bach denied the accusations and she was called by God to do the work and had saved hundreds of lives.

Through interviews with Bach, her accusers, lawyers, activists, and more, the three-part docuseries will take a look at the complexities of missionary work, especially in developing countries where local facilities are underfunded; the wider questions around “white saviorism”; and the intersection of race, religion, and power.
