About ‘Shōgun’ Premiere
Lord Yoshii Toranaga is facing the united opposition of his enemies on the Council of Regents, and has few options left to him. But the lord’s luck seemingly changes when he finds the pilot of a marooned English fishing vessel in a nearby village. The pilot, named John Blackthorne has his own reasons for being in Japan, and his own enemies who might be devastated by an alliance between himself and Toranaga.
The fates of the two men become linked through translator Toda Mariko, a Christian convert and the last of a line whose name has fallen into disrepute. Mariko is forced to walk a tightrope between her lord, her growing fondness for Blackthorne and her faith, as well as fulfill her duty to her late father to the best of her abilities.
