About Spy Thriller 'Argylle'
In the movie, Elly Conway is the author of a highly successful series of books about a spy named Argylle. In the movie version of “Argylle,” Conway is struggling to finish her fifth book in the series. However, in the real world, one month before the film hit movie theaters, the first book in the series was actually released, and its author… Elly Conway.
Due to the cloak-and-dagger nature of the book’s release, internet sleuths began looking for clues as to the author’s true identity and — as most things online do — it came back to Taylor Swift… no really.
In reality, the “Argylle” novel was written by two spy and movie veterans, Terry Hayes and Tammy Cohen. However, the confusion over what was real and what wasn’t in the world of Argylle ended up being perfect for the twisty tale of the film.
Elly Conway (played by Bryce Dallas Howard) is the reclusive cat-loving author of a series of bestselling espionage novels about the impossibly glamorous secret agent Argylle (Henry Cavill), who’s on a mission to unravel a nefarious spy syndicate. When Elly, with the help of feline-hating real-life spy Aidan (Sam Rockwell), discovers that her story mirrors the actions of an actual spy organization, a dangerous game of cat and mouse ensues.
In order to stay one step ahead of the syndicate’s assassins while also working to prevent a global crisis, these two unlikely conspirators — accompanied by Alfie the cat — find themselves in an adventure story of their own.
In addition to Cavill, Howard, and Rockwell, the cast of A-listers includes John Cena, Ariana DeBose, Richard E. Grant, Dua Lipa, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Sofia Boutella, Samuel L. Jackson and Chip, the real-life cat of supermodel Claudia Schiffer, who is the wife of writer and director Matthew Vaugn=hn.
