About 'Wonka'
Directed by Paul King (“Paddington” films) and co-written by King and Simon Farnaby (“Paddington 2”), 2023’s “Wonka” takes one of Roald Dahl’s most beloved characters and takes him back further to his humble beginnings.
Timothée Chalamet stars in the musical origin story as a younger Willy Wonka, decades before the version by Gene Wilder made famous in 1971’s “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” and again portrayed by Johnny Depp in 2005’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” “Armed with nothing but a hatful of dreams,” the film follows the younger Wonka in his early days as he works to become the world’s greatest inventor, magician, and chocolate maker.
Calah Lane co-stars opposite Chalamet as Noodle, an orphan girl who becomes Wonka’s assistant at the launderette where he is imprisoned and forced to work. The all-star international ensemble is comprised of Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Olivia Colman, Hugh Grant, Natasha Rothwell, Rich Fulcher, Rakhee Thakrar, Tom Davis, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, and more.
The film, which was released in theaters on Dec. 15, has made $624.9 million at the global box office.
