Is ‘Dune: Part 2” Available to Stream Now? When Will it Come to Max, Netflix?

The science fiction epic from director Dennis Villeneuve will follow a decidedly different path to streaming than its predecessor.

Get ready to head back to Arrakis! The highly-anticipated sequel to 2021’s “Dune” is heading to theaters, as “Dune: Part Two” officially arrives in cinemas on Friday, March 1. The latest attempt to adapt Frank Herbert’s epic novel to the screen began showing preview screenings earlier this week, but it has now made its wide release in the United States.

  • “Dune: Part Two” will not stream on Max simultaneous with its theatrical debut as the first film did.
  • The Streamable predicts fans are in for quite a wait before “Dune: Part Two” is available to stream.
  • “Dune” is now available to stream on Hulu, having recently left Netflix.

“Dune: Part Two” continues the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a path of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, Paul endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

The film’s epic scope and thrilling visuals have made it a favorite of critics. “Dune: Part Two” currently holds a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with its visual effects, storytelling, and top-quality performances by an ensemble cast led by Timothée Chalamet receiving special praise.

When Will ‘Dune: Part Two’ Be Available to Stream?

Unfortunately for those hoping to break up “Dune: Part Two” and its 165-minute runtime with a scheduled pause for a bathroom trip, the film will follow a very different release schedule than its predecessor. “Dune” was released on the then-HBO Max platform on the same day it hit theaters in 2021, as did all Warner movies from that year thanks to ongoing concerns from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Director Dennis Villeneuve made no secret of his disdain for the day-and-date release strategy, and current Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav feels exactly the same way. Although his company’s distribution of “Dune: Part Two” assures viewers that it will stream on Max once it leaves theaters, audiences could be in for a long wait before the movie makes it to streaming.

Philosophically, WBD believes in getting the most money from its movies at the box office, as well as on digital rental and purchase platforms as possible before moving them to streaming. For example, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” took 67 days to reach Max after its departure from theaters, despite being yet another critical and box-office flop for the studio.

“Dune: Part Two” seems poised to be a hit with critics and audiences alike, much like 2023’s “Barbie,” which took 148 days to reach Max after its theatrical debut. “Dune: Part Two” will likely be on a similar timeline, and The Streamable predicts it will arrive on Max on Monday, July 29, which would be 150 days after its initial release.
