Is ‘The Creator’ Available to Stream Now?
As a 20th Century Studios movie, ‘The Creator’ will stream on Hulu when it leaves theaters. But when?
The writers’ strike is officially over, as Hollywood screenwriters have gotten strong protections from studios regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI). But the new movie “The Creator,” which officially debuts in theaters on Friday, Sept. 29, shows audiences what can happen without guardrails against AI.
“The Creator” is set in a hypothetical future in which humans and AI are at war. Ex-special forces operative Joshua is tasked with finding The Creator, the leader of AI forces. Rumors have spread that The Creator has prepared a new weapon with which to wipe out humanity once and for all, but when Joshua discovers that weapon is a child, his mission becomes more complex than he ever imagined. The movie stars John David Washington, Gemma Chan, Ken Watanabe, Allison Janney, and more.
Critics have responded mostly positively to “The Creator.” The film has a 68% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and reviewers singled out the visual aesthetic and action set pieces of the movie for special praise. “The Creator” is rated PG-13, so families with kids don’t have to worry about too much extreme content.

“The Creator” is a theatrical exclusive release, so users who were hoping to find it on their favorite streaming platform this weekend will be sadly disappointed. The good news is that the film is being distributed by 20th Century Studios in the United States, which means that it will be shown on Hulu once it’s done in theaters and on premium video-on-demand (PVOD) platforms that allow customers to purchase movies that are still in cinemas.
But how long will that take? It’s a bit harder to answer that question, as 20th Century Studios films have been all over the map recently. Some, like the recent remake of “White Men Can't Jump” and the extraterrestrial thriller “No One Will Save You” have been direct-to-streaming releases on Hulu, but as previously stated that won’t be the case for “The Creator.”
The other end of that spectrum is “Avatar: The Way of Water,” which did not become available to stream until 173 days after its initial release. But this movie is also probably not a good comparison for “The Creator,” as the latter film is highly unlikely to become a global box office phenomenon the way the “Avatar” franchise has.
Therefore, it seems logical to guess that “The Creator” will stream on Hulu 70 days or so after its initial release. If it keeps to that schedule, it will be available for Hulu subscribers on Friday, Dec. 8, giving users the perfect way to distract themselves from the trials and tribulations of holiday shopping.
