Josh Brolin to Star in Brad Pitt-Produced ‘Outer Range’ for Amazon
Fresh off his Oscar win, Brad Pitt (“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”) is kick-starting his deal with Amazon Prime Video, which was completed last month.
Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment is behind the drama “Outer Range,” which stars Josh Brolin (“Avengers: Endgame,” “True Grit”) as a Wyoming rancher fighting for his land and family who tackles a mystery in the wilderness.
Brolin is also an executive producer on the series. The versatile actor will next star in the remake of “Dune,” expected this year, and “Flag Day,” which co-stars Sean Penn. Brolin also has a project at Hulu.
“Outer Range” is created by playwright Brian Watkins (“Epiphany”), who is set to produce “Ultraluminous” with Steven Soderbergh.
Pitt’s company has a second production at Amazon, the adaption of Colson Whitehead’s novel “Underground Railroad,” slated for 2020, and “Paper Girls,” an adaptation of the Brian K. Vaughan graphic novel.
Other original Amazon series debuting in March include the crime thriller “ZeroZeroZero” and kids’ animated show “Jessy and Nessy.” The streamer plans to reboot “A League of Their Own.”
Also coming to Amazon Prime is the sci-fi “Dawn,” an adaptation of Octavia E. Butler’s Hugo-winning novel. Ava DuVernay (“When They See Us”) will co-executive produce the series with Victoria Mahoney (“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”). Mahoney is penning the script and directing the pilot. DuVernay is also directing HBO Max’s “DMZ.”
“Dawn” is the story of an African-American woman who, along with other survivors, has been asleep on an alien space ship for 250 years. Now, she’s charged with resurrecting the human race.
Butler was the first sci-fi writer to win a MacArthur Fellowship. She is best known for “Parable of the Sower,” “Kindred” and the “Patternist” series.
